Freddies Tips – Golf Breaks Spain
It is with fond memories I participated and arranged travel for all those who competed in the GAA Legends Charity Event at La Manga resort Spain.
All in all, it was great event with every county in Ireland participating in the GAA Legends Golf Charity event, the group arrived at La Manga for their annual All Ireland Golf Event. This event was organised by Freddie Grehan from GolfHolidays.ie this event was the highlight of the year and played over four days, the competition was as competitive as any All Ireland football or hurling final.
The tournament was played over the three superb golf courses at La Manga and every team was made up of a fourball representing every county in Ireland, the four-day event was eagerly contested as each county battled to become All Ireland Champions. The event was quite unique as each county team member had represented their county at either junior or senior level, this made the event even more competitive with entrants counting nearly 100 All Ireland senior medals. The famous faces in attendance included greats such as Bomber Liston, Daragh O’Se, Mike Sheehy, Seanie Walsh from Kerry, Bernard Flynn, Gerry McEntee, Colm ORourke, Pat Reynolds from Meath, Seamus Darby, Michael Duignan, John Troy, Brian Whelehan from Offaly, Joe Kernan Armagh, Mick McGinley Donegal, Tommy Carr, Keith Barr Dublin, Eddie Kehir, The Fennelly brothers, Christy Heffernan from Kilkenny, we could go on!
La Manga has been voted the best golf holiday resort destination in Europe and for a number of years hosted this event superbly. The facilities available at La manga include three superb golf course, and while holidaying at La Manga you have access to a choice of great restaurants, superb tennis facilities and plenty of evening entertainment after a good days golf. The winning county, Kildare, received €50,000 as a winners cheque to be distributed to the charity of their choice in Kildare. It was rumoured, that a comment was made by a famous ex Dublin footballer that it was their only All Ireland success in the last 100 years, however, nobody could begrudge the winning Kildare team. The event was arranged superbly by all at La Manga and most importantly enjoyed immensely by all those who took part in a wonderful event.
Freddie managed all the travel arrangements for the group from start to finish.
