From the initial idea of former PGA Tour Commissioner Dean Beman the stadium course at TPC Sawgrass was built in 1982 to host The Players Championship and be the permanent home of The Players Championship

Working with renowned course architect Pete Dye, Commissioner Beman created a course that favoured no particular player or style of play. The result is a truly balanced course. Players find a selection of short, medium and long holes within the categories of par 3s par4s and par5s: both right and left doglegs and a course routing laid out so that no 2 consecutive holes ever play in the same direction.

With its signature par 3 island green 17th hole being one of the most recognized in world golf, this legendary track has captured the imagination of golf fans all over the world. It has just been voted the 2019 North America’s best golf course.

Winners of The PGA Tour Championship at Sawgrass include Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Greg Norman, Jack Nicklaus, Sergio Garcia, Henrik Stenson, Fred Couples, Sandy Lyle, the list goes on.
