The western Algarve and particularly the Old Town of Lagos ranks as one of the prettiest resorts on the Algarve .The town itself has a wonderful selection of restaurants and the pedestrianized streets add to its charm. There are lots of good places to meet in the evening and the selection of outdoor bars, coffee shops, and outdoor entertainment makes Lagos a must visit golf destination. The beaches located on the east side of the town are probably some of the best beaches on the Algarve. If you have a free day and no golf travel to the further western point of Southern Europe Cape of Saint Vincent it is well worth the visit and while you are there maybe lunch at A Tasca which overlooks the sea, the fish is excellent.
A gentle stroll from the town center is the Hotel Tivoli Lagos which is ideal for golfers, the hotel serves an excellent breakfast for golfers and is only 100 meters from some nice bars and restaurants. This 4 star hotel offers standard and superior rooms we recommend the superior rooms as there location is better as the hotel is quite large.
The Lagos region offers an excellent selection of golf course within easy reach, we recommend the following:
Palmares 27 holes located on the beach at Lagos, three separate nines offer different challenges through woodland, with one nine running down to the beach we would certainly recommend that you include Palmares in your itinerary ,lunch. Small beer or coffee in the new clubhouse offers one of the finest views to the Algarve.
Penina, championship golf course located between Lagos and Alvor was one of the first golf course built on the Algarve, designed by Sir Henry Cotton, the terrain is flat and the course has plenty of water hazards.
Boa Vista, Located close to Lagos, 18 holes if offers good selection and variety of interesting holes the finish from the 14th home offers all levels of golfers real challenge.
In the area you also have access to Morgado and Alamos, situated north of Portimao and only 30 mins drive from Lagos, located in a large 900 hectare estate and resting in a very picturesque valley, the fairways are generous however the greens demand patience, so be warned
A further 15 mins heading east are the Amendoeira Golf Courses, The Faldo and O’Connor designed 18holes again offer a good test with generous fairways long par3s and a good deal of water on the O’Connor, the A22 from Lagos puts these two challenging golf course within a 45 mon drive form Lagos
Other course in the area are Espiche, San Antonio ( formerly Parque da Floresta), Alto.
